About Me
Deon Heffington is an associate professor at the Autonomous University of the State of Quintana Roo (UQROO). She holds a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction, with a specialization in ESOL and Bilingual Education, from University of Florida. She has ample experience teaching in different educational levels in Mexico. She has also worked with pre-service and in-service educators in the US. She has been appointed Chair of the Department of Language and Education (2009-2013) and Associate Provost for Academic Affairs in the Southern Region at UQROO (2021-2022). From 2016 to 2019, she worked with prominent scholars in the field, teachers, educational leaders, rural associations, as well as bi/multilingual students and their families. Her research interests include effective instructional practices in English Language Teaching (ELT) in K-12 and higher education, as well as studies related to ELT preparation programs and pre-service and in-service education with bi/multilingual students. She’s a member of the National Research System in Mexico (SNI) and of the State Research System (SEI) in Quintana Roo.
